This Sunday we have visited Maslenitsa, a huge folk holiday of the Winter farewell that Russians widely celebrate in the last week before the Great Lent.
Maslenitsa is also known as Butter Week or Pancake week. So one of the main things on this holiday is eating hot pancakes in almost all possible variations. Another traditional activities during Maslenitsa are sledding, snowball fights, folklore singing and dancing, games for the kids with prizes and gifts.
The culmination of the holiday is burning the Lady Maslenitsa!

Even though originally it's pagan holiday, now it's actually nothing about religion but about an old Russian tradition. Just a great way to say "Good bye" to the Winter, to eat pancakes and spent the time on a folk celebration!
